Chinese characters to pinyin — with tones, polyphonic characters and initials
Type Chinese characters to convert them to Hanyu Pinyin in real time, with tone marks (hàn yǔ), tone numbers (han4 yu3) or no tones — or output only the initials (handy for abbreviations, sorting or search). The tool is built on the open-source library pinyin-pro and picks the reading of polyphonic characters from word context, e.g. 银行 yín háng vs 行走 xíng zǒu. In the annotated view below, polyphonic characters are underlined; hover to see every reading. Everything runs in your browser.
What is surname mode?
When enabled, surnames use their surname readings, e.g. 单 is read shàn and 曾 is read zēng.
